New to exercise - what you need.jpg

In many aspects of our lives we can overcomplicate things. This is true of exercise. It is easy to think that because you don’t have access to a health club or you don’t have a room in your house filled with dumbbells that you can’t make positive changes to you health, wellbeing and body shape, but this is simply not true. We can also use lack of equipment as an excuse to procrastinate - ‘I’ll get going when I get my new trainers’ or ‘I really need to join the gym, then it’ll be easy to exercise’. We have stripped this programme back to the bare bones so you only need the very basics to be able to complete the sessions and make yourself fitter and stronger!

Trainers

Think about your footwear.  Trainers don’t need to be branded or expensive, but they do need to fit you comfortably and provide support for your feet. It’s something to be aware of and if you are unsure on the trainers you have, it is worth asking advice at a good sports shop. Sports socks (rather than trainer liners) are also a good idea to maximise comfort.

Women, you’ll need a supportive bra

Some of the exercises in the programme have the option of being more explosive and can include jumping. A suitable bra is necessary to give the right support irrespective of your cup size.

Our app

To guide you through your sessions, you’ll need our app on your phone or tablet next to you. It is a good idea to have a look at the programme prior to starting the sessions, this way you can learn how to perform each exercise with the correct technique.

Comfortable clothing

Ideally wear comfortable clothing which isn’t going to rub or bother you when you train. You’ll probably find yourself getting warm quite quickly during the workouts so be mindful of the temperature wherever you are doing your sessions. If it’s cold when you start, make sure to wear layers so that you can gradually remove them when you warm up.

Space

Before starting your session ensure you have enough space to move your arms and legs freely and without knocking into any furniture(!) and have a think about where to position your phone or tablet so that you can see it easily.

Water

It’s very important to stay hydrated when exercising. It is important to have water with you when you train so that you can take on liquid in your rest periods, especially if the weather is warm. It’s also important to note that hydration isn’t limited to when you’re exercising, taking on water should be part of your daily routine whether it’s a training day or not.

As we said above, try not to overcomplicate things, keep it simple…now let’s do this!
