Find your 'Why'
Reading time: 2 minutes
Everybody is individual and each one of us has a slightly different fitness goal. By taking part in this programme, your ultimate target for the next 10 weeks is to be able to run 5k. Whilst building up the strength to be able to do this, your cardiovascular endurance will definitely increase, as will your leg and core strength. You may also lose some weight and notice some improved flexibility along the way. However, the primary goal is to run 5k in 10 weeks time.
But do you have another motivation for embarking on a new fitness regime? Perhaps it’s to feel healthier, fitter, move more easily, maintain youthfulness, feel more energised or lose weight. Maybe it’s all of the above. We urge you to spend 5 minutes to write down why you decided to sign up for this programme. In our experience, the people we have trained who have a clear reason ‘why’ they signed up to a new fitness regime get better results. This is because the programme won’t always feel easy, ‘change is uncomfortable, but necessary’. Forming new habits is challenging, and life gets busy. Keep this focus when things/people/events get in the way of your training and attempt to throw you off track. Birthday parties, work deadlines and family visits will happen but you have 3 runs, plus a stretch session to fit in each week. Try the best you can to make these non-negotiable.
Your Week 10 5k Run:
Your training plan will culminate in running a 5k on the final week. You could step out of your front door to do this but we really recommend signing up to do a Parkrun in your local area. These events are free to join and the inclusive nature and camaraderie of the participants make it addictive…you might even find yourself walking or running 5k every week! These events happen all over the world so to find your nearest run click on the link below. Search your postcode, select the parkrun you would like to join and then follow the details to register for free:
It’s important to do this now as having this ultimate event in the diary is another way to cement your goal and it will help to drive you on when things get a little more challenging.
This is the start of your journey to 5k…go get it!!
