Online Pilates - What to expect
Reading time: 2.5 minutes
Welcome to Day 1 of the 10 Week Pilates Programme. This 10 week course is suitable for all ages and abilities, so whether you are completely new to Pilates or you are more experienced in this style of training, this programme will help you master the fundamental principles, guide you through key movements and deliver real-time sessions for you to practice. Overall, the key thing to take from this programme is how good movement feels.
“Movement should be approached like life - with enthusiasm, joy and gratitude - for movement is life, and life is movement, and we get out of it what we put into it” ~ Ron Fletcher, Pilates Master Teacher
This is Week 0. It is a ‘Preparation Week’ where you can familiarise yourself with our app and get yourself set up for the weeks ahead. We’ll be sharing blogs and information on the structure behind the plan and introducing some of the key principles. We will not be asking you to complete any sessions until next week.
Hopefully you’ve had a chance to read through your Welcome Pack, but if you haven’t yet, take some time to do this over the next few days as it provides some helpful information about the app and your programme.
This blog will provide a brief outline of what you can expect over the coming weeks.
How is each week structured?
Starting next Monday, you will receive 2 sessions plus 1 x ‘Focus’ session each week. These can be broken down as follows:
1 x 20-30 minute session per week
1 x ‘Focus’ session which will give you exercises for target areas (such as glutes, abs and shoulders). Key exercises will be broken down in order to help you master the fundamentals. The more you can practise these the better!
1 x 1 hour real time Pilates class each week
Each week will have a different focus and the sessions will become more challenging as the weeks progress.
What you’ll need
The beauty of Pilates is that you don’t need very much equipment. For these sessions you’ll need a mat and a 1 inch head cushion (or small folded towel) to support your neck. You don’t need to wear footwear during the sessions, just bare feet or socks.
The goal of the Programme
Over the next 10 weeks, the Pilates Programme will introduce you to numerous different movements and exercises aimed to improve your posture, core strength and flexibility. Try to complete all of the sessions in order, starting with the foundation exercises as it’s important to grasp the fundamentals before progressing to the more advanced movements later in the programme. If you miss a workout it is possible to do the sessions on consecutive days in order to catch up. Always ensure that your body feels strong enough to complete the sessions with good form – technique is paramount throughout the programme.
We hope you enjoy it.
